About the Strip 1 Tysons Project

Washington Gas is a regulated natural gas utility providing affordable, reliable, and safe natural gas service to more than 1.2 million customers in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.

As the region continues to grow, Washington Gas is upgrading its system to meet current and future energy needs and to continue delivering safe, reliable service.

The Strip 1 Tysons Project is a key part of this effort. It involves replacing aging infrastructure with modern systems that incorporate the latest safety and technology advancements.

This project will strengthen the natural gas system serving Fairfax County and the entire Washington Gas service area. Some infrastructure in this area dates back to 1948, making upgrades essential to maintaining long‑term safety and reliability.

Construction on the latest phase of this project is scheduled to begin on April 15, 2026, and will span approximately two miles. All work within the roadway will occur in the right-of-way and is permitted by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The attached map shows the permitted construction route in which we will be working.
